Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 helps to break down sugar and protein in the body and aids in the production of serotonin.  Much of the body's chemistry depends upon enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that help chemical reactions take place. Because vitamin B6 is involved with more than 100 enzymatic reactions, its function in the body is diverse and far-reaching.

Vitamin B6 can be found in meats, whole grain products, vegetables, nuts and bananas

Symptoms of Vitamin B6 deficiency
  • Fatigue
  • Anemia
  • Skin disorders including eczema and seborrheic dermatitis
  • Convulsions or seizures
  • PMS
  • Depression
A deficiency of vitamin B6 alone is relatively uncommon and often occurs in association with other vitamins of the B complex. The elderly and alcoholics have an increased risk of vitamin B6 deficiency, as well as other micronutrient deficiencies.

Interactions
As a member of the B vitamin family, B6 has key interactions with many of its family members. B6 is essential for making vitamin B3 (niacin) from the amino acid tryptophan.  Vitamins B2 and B3 are both needed to convert vitamin B6 into its various chemical forms, and imbalances in vitamin B1 metabolism create imbalances in vitamin B6 metabolism. B6 deficiency can also reduce the body's absorption of vitamin B12.

In addition to dietary insufficiency, smoking and the use of many prescription medications can contribute to vitamin B6 deficiency.  These medications include birth control pills and oral estrogens, diuretics, asthma-related drugs, aminoglycosides, and anti-fibrotic drugs.

Adverse effects have only been documented from vitamin B6 supplements and never from food sources.

Bee Pollen and Vitamin B6
Bee Pollen contains relatively high levels of all the B vitamins including vitamin B6. Although Bee Pollen is often sold in capsule form it is in fact a food.........the most complete food in nature and often referred to as natures perfectly balanced multi-vitamin and mineral supplement!

Nutrition is a complicated business and vitamins, minerals, amino acids etc, all need to work in harmony together in order to aid absorption and provide a positive effect. This is hard to achieve with laboratory produced supplements. Among many other things, Bee Pollen contains high levels of all the B vitamins which work in perfect synergy with vitamin B6.  Bee Pollen is a perfectly balanced food......the way nature intended.

The highest-quality bee pollen comes from the purest natural environments. Abeeco bee pollen is sourced from bees who work free-range surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges and national parks on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Abeeco's Bee Pollen is quite different to most due to the purity of product. Most bee pollen granules sold in dietary supplements are sourced from the USA and China. Independent laboratories frequently find traces of heavy metals present in these bee pollens as a direct result of air pollution. Bee Pollen is only as good as the environment from which the bees collect the pollen. We've been in the bee pollen business for over 15 years and are the trusted home of Pure NZ Bee Pollen.
