Probiotics are the sources of good bacteria, i.e. bacteria which are beneficial for the health and balance of the intestinal tract.  They help in the proper digestion and absorption of foods and boost the immune system.  They also help to cure diseases like irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and even colon cancer.  Good intestinal health is crucial in promoting overall health and a general sense of well being.

Some foods like yogurt are natural sources of good bacteria (although you would need to eat about 40 tubs to get the equivalent good bacteria of one Abeeco capsule!). But the foods that we generally eat lack in good bacteria due to the processing they are subjected to. So if the normal diet does not provide the 'good bacteria' to our body, the only way to get them is through supplements. 

A healthy lower intestine should contain at least 85% friendly bacteria to prevent the over colonization of disease causing micro-organisms.  Our colon can maintain its health with 15% unfriendly bacteria so long as the body contains at least 85% friendly bacteria.  These percentages are reversed in most people.
